What is a mental health care plan?
In Australia, if you have a Mental Health Care Plan from your GP, you can usually get up to 10 discounted sessions with a mental health professional each year. If you need more sessions, your doctor can review and approve additional sessions based on your needs.
If you have an Eating Disorder Plan you are eligible for up to 40 discounted sessions with a mental health professional each year.
What is counselling?
Counselling is a process where a trained professional, called a counsellor, helps individuals or groups explore and understand their feelings, thoughts, and behaviours. The goal is to provide support, guidance, and a safe space for people to express themselves and work through various life challenges. Counsellors use different therapeutic approaches to address issues such as stress, relationships, grief, mental health concerns, and personal development. The aim of counselling is to promote self-discovery, emotional well-being, and the development of coping skills for improved mental and emotional health.
